- Additional Info: Last name may also be spelled Merriwether and Merrywether. During the 1720 session of the Assembly, New Kent County was represented by John Stanup and Nicholas Meriwether. Stanup died prior to the opening of the May 9, 1722 session. Nicholas Meriwether was elected a member of the House for the new county of Hanover, which had been formed from New Kent. A new election was called in New Kent, which resulted in the return of John Thornton &Thomas Massey.
Hanover County was established by an act passed at the 1720 session of the Assembly. Representatives from the county first appeared at the 1722 session which began May 9, 1722.
