  • Bio: Born in Dranesville, Va., November 9, 1848. Died in Pleasant Valley, Va., November 30, 1936. Buried in “Old Darnes” Cemetery, Loudoun County, Va. John F. Ryan of Loudoun County was the son of William P. and Margaret Lee (McFarland) Ryan. His father, an Irishman, was a teacher and merchant. He was educated in local private and boarding schools. He was a farmer and financier, He was a member of the House of Delegates, 1883-1906 and served two terms as Speaker. He never married.

    While he was Speaker of the House the Clerks were JOHN BELL BIGGER, THOMAS H. BIGGER, and JOHN W. WILLIAMS.
