  • Occupation/Profession: Lawyer; Served as judge for 13 years – appointed General Court judge in 1780 and later to the Virginia Court of Appeals where he remained until his death in 1793
  • Additional Info: 1761-1765 Assembly-James Keith accepted the clerkship of Frederick County and was replaced by James Mercer in the November 1762 session.

    Son of John Mercer – Irish immigrant and wealthy plantation owner at Marlborough in Stafford County.
    Brother of John Fenton Mercer and George Mercer; half-brother of John Francis Mercer; First Cousin of George Mason
